This shift took decades. Yet although generative AI is, by many measures, the fastest technology ever adopted, that doesn’t mean it will skip the awkward in-between stage. Are those websites that have a chatbot ready to help (or, just as often, hinder) the final form of this interface? Probably not, but if history is any guide we might be stuck with them for some time.
